The compositions presented on this first CD by the Parma Trio pay tribute to a composer, Pizzetti, who is only apparently famous: but in fact very little performed and explored today, especially as far as chamber instrumental production is concerned. Yet, the Trio was first performed in ’25 by outstanding performers: George Enesco on violin and Hans Kindler on cello. The Three Songs, only a year earlier, was also given its first performance, at the Pitti Palace, by two monstres sacrées: Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Enrico Mainardi. Completing the CD are some authentic “gems” for violin and piano (two “Arias” and a “Colloquy”), including an entirely new premiere for cello: the extemporaneous tribute to a very young seven-year-old cellist, Amedeo Baldovino, who was to become one of the instrument’s greatest interpreters. The CD is expertly introduced by Gian Paolo Minardi, as the Trio gives of the works of its illustrious fellow citizen one of its most passionate and profound interpretations.
