Concerto presents the world premiere recording of Violin and Mandolin, accomplices and rivals: works by Giovanni Francesco Giuliani (Livorno 1760, Florence 1818) and Giovanni Hoffmann (last decades of the 18th century). Giuliani was a celebrated violinist, harpist, teacher of singing and harpsichord, while Hoffmann was one of the greatest mandolin virtuosos. They made the two instruments dialogue together in the same register, the high register, singing the soprano voice. A special feature of the instrumentarium (particularly rich: mandola, Neapolitan mandolin, theorbo, cello, violin) is the coexistence of two types of mandolin: Brescian and Neapolitan.
Ensemble Baschenis unearthed the scores that lay manuscript at the Gesellschafst der Musikfreunde in Vienna.
