This collection presents the 2 CDs of the complete works of Giovanni Francesco Giuliani and Giovanni Hoffman. These are 4 divertimenti and 6 quartets divided into 24 tracks, featuring the Violin and Mandolin as accomplices and rivals. In the field of eighteenth/nineteenth-century musical literature numerous violinists and composers with knowledge of the mandolin transposed their knowledge from one instrument to the other. Complicity is rendered by the rules of common language, rivalry is inherent in the attempt to excel and captivate the listener through their respective idiomatic messages. Giovanni Francesco Giuliani was a violinist, harpist, teacher of singing and harpsichord; by contrast, very little is known about Giovanni Hoffman, but it is certain that in the fi nite of the 18th century he was one of the greatest virtuosos of the mandolin.
