*World first recording
The Sollini – Barbatano Piano Duo, already the protagonists of the two Concerto Classics productions dedicated to Gioachino Rossini (CD 2076 “Complete chamber music with piano”) and Sergei Rachmaninov (CD 2073 “Piano works for four and six hands”), performs, in its world premiere, Pietro Mascagni’s Symphony in F major for piano 4 hands, rediscovered in 2004 by Maestro Sollini himself.
With the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth, Mascagni’s 13 compositions for solo piano are also presented, including the first version of the Intermezzo from his celebrated Cavalleria Rusticana, and of which 3 are world premieres: “Mio primo Valzer” (with arrangement by Anton Seidel), a fragment of “Un pensiero a San Francisco” and “New world processional (Triumphal March).”
The introductory notes are by music critic and historian Cesare Orselli, a leading expert and connoisseur of Pietro Mascagni.
