Presented in this recording are some masterpieces by Giovanni Bottesini, who is linked to the double bass as, mutatis mutandis, Stradivari to the violin. A friend of Verdi’s and a prolific musician, he wrote a great deal for this fascinating instrument.His music is interpreted in an absolutely extraordinary way by the first double bass of La Scala’s orchestra, both Philharmonic and Orchestra, Francesco Siragusa, a pupil of Petracchi, who gives a splendid preface to the CD.
