Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) was also an extraordinary composer of exquisite chamber music. The subject of this recording are a number of pieces, which Rossini conceived from time to time for a single instrument with piano accompaniment. Most of these pieces were conceived in order to pay tribute to a virtuoso friend in relation to his instrument. These are distinguished by their introductions so highly charged with pathos and lyricism and by the very rapid and sweeping variations.
