Händel’s masterpiece, which now enjoys a large as well as excellent discography, is revived in its “original” version, in which – as is well known – the roles of Caesar, Ptolemy and Nirenus, written at that time for castrati, are interpreted by our excellent sopranos Angelo Manzotti (who plays the main character), the younger Angelo Galeano (who gave a surprising and resounding interpretation of Ptolemy) and Angelo Bonazzoli. They are joined by the voice of Alexandra Zabala, Cleopatra, well known to opera audiences as well as discography. The great themes of love, jealousy, glory and revenge are ringed in great powerful arias, among the finest written by the “great Saxon.” The Ecclesiastical Concerto Chorus and Orchestra are conducted by Luca Franco Ferrari. The opera, recorded live in Savona in 2006 under the direction of Alessandro Capaldi; special patroness of the evening: Renata Scotto.
This opera was then remastered to restore the splendor of 32-bit audio, even to the most sophisticated hi-fi equipment.
