One of Italy's most well known concert guitarists, Giulio Tampalini has won some of the most important international competitions in guitar, beginning with the first prize in the Concorso Internazionale "Narciso Yepes" in Sanremo (with Narciso Yepes as president of the jury), to "Fernando Sor" in Roma, at the Torneo Internazionale in Rome in 1996 and in 2000, to the "De Bonis" in Cosenza, up to and including achievements at "Pittaluga" in Alessandria and at "Segovia" in Granada. In 2003, he received the "Chitarra d'Oro" at the Convegno Internazionale di Chitarra in Alessandria for the Best CD of the Year ("Francisco Tarrega – Opere complete per chitarra" ed. Concerto)
He has performed solo and accompanied by symphonic orchestras throughout Italy, Europe and America, taking part in prestigious concert series and important music festivals. In 2001, he performed in the Concerto di Natale in the Vatican in honor of the Pope. He has collaborated with numerous musicians among them the one with the section leaders of the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. He also enjoys performing contemporary music, thanks, in part, to his close association with a number of composers who have dedicated works to him. 
Among the CDs he has published a few in particular should be mentioned: a CD dedicated to Italian reparatory from the 1900's including the "Sequenza XI" by Luciano Berio, two CDs dedicated to Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's works for guitar (Opere complete per chitarra vol. 1-3), a CD containing the "Concierto de Aranjuez" by Joaquin Rodrigo for guitar and orchestra and the Spanish composer's most important masterpieces, a double CD dedicated to the complete works for guitar by Francisco Tàrrega, a CD dedicated to music for guitar by Angelo Gilardino, composed between 2002 and 2005, in which the well known "Colloquio con Andrès Segovia" is featured, a double CD containing the Sei Rossiniane by Mauro Giuliani and a DVD containing all of Heitor Villa-Lobos' works for guitar only, a project produced on video, for the first time in the world.
