Michele Barchi graduated from the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan, where he studied piano with Maria Isabella De Carli. Subsequently he also earned a degree in harpsichord.
He broadened his knowledge of keyboard instruments by studying their construction and building several instruments including copies of harpsichords, spinets, virginals and organs.
For several years he was part of the ensemble, Il Giardino Armonico, in which he played both continuo and solo. He has been part of the most important musical festivals, concert series and seasonal programs, both in Italy and abroad.
Having recorded for both radio and television including the RAI, Radio Svizzera, West Deutsche Rundfunk, ORF Austria and several US broadcasting companies, he has also made several CD's of solo performances of J. S. Bach's harpsichord music (concertos, suites, fantasies and fugues) for the recording company, Teldec, in the original version "Bach 2000". With the recording company ‘Fugatto', he recently published a DVD dedicated to 18th century Venetian music for harpsichord, which included three heretofore-unpublished composers from Brescia.
Under the direction of M° Claudio Abbado, he was invited to play solo and continuo of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos at the Lucerne Festival. He performed A. Scarlatti's  ‘'Oratorio a Quattro Voci'' at the 2007 Salzburg Festival under the direction of M° Riccardo Muti.
Together with the violinist, Elisa Citterio he founded Brixia Musicalis, a Baroque musical formation in which Barchi plays both solo and continuo. As harpsichordist, he has appeared in many concerts both as soloist and part of a chamber group, playing with Chiara Banchini, Gaetano Nasillo, Enrico Gatti, Monica Hugget. He has also researched and transcribed manuscript and unpublished music written by composers of the 1700's from Brescia.
Along with his passion for music he has also nurtured a passion for painting and in addition to producing paintings, he has decorated, applied gilt and refinished furniture and keyboard instruments.
