Lucca 1589 – ? ca. 1617

Vincenzo Calestani

Not much is known about his life, not even if he was related to Girolamo Calestani, another composer from Lucca of the same period.
It is only known that he was a singer and composer, and that Isabella Mastiani – a member of a prominent family in Pisa where Calestani worked – was one of his students. To her he dedicated the volume: Madrigali et arie … published in 1617, that included madrigals and Arias for one or two voices a continuo, 28 of which he composed. Damigella tutta bella has become the most famous one.
