Artistic Director of the Festival of Brescia and Bergamo, Pier Carlo Orizio (Brescia, 1963) graduated in piano under the guidance of Sergio Marengoni, he studied composition with Giancarlo Facchinetti and conducting with Donato Renzetti and also attended courses held by Emil Tchakarov (Venice 1988) and Leonard Bernstein (Rome 1989). As a conductor he has performed many concerts with some of the leading orchestras in European: from the Philharmonic and St. Petersburg Tchaikovsky
Symphony Orchestra in Moscow, to the Prague Symphony and the Salzburg Camerata, the National Orchestra of Denmark to the Slovenian Philharmonic Ljubljana, through to the Orchestra of Italian Switzerland, the R.T.V. of Zagabria, the Lithuanian National Symphony, the "Haydn" of Bolzano and Trento
, the Krakow Philharmonic, the "Enescu" Bucharest, the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini
, the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Cannes and many other. Through his concert activities he has collaborated with renowned soloists, among which the we see names like legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, pianist Martha Argerich, violinists Uto Ughi and Salvatore Accardo and singers Cecilia Gasdia and Sara Mingardo. His work outside Europe is also important, from the United States of America, through to Brazil and notably China, where in recent years he founded the International Piano Festival in Beijing. He has recorded a CD entirely dedicated to Mendelssohn with the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto
(soloists violinist Domenico Nordio and pianist Roberto Prosseda) for the "Amadeus" magazine, as well as an album of Haydn
with the Festival Orchestra of Brescia and Bergamo and pianist Joseph Andaloro. With a keen interest in the renewal of symphonic repertoire, in particular to the music of our time, he has performed the world premieres, with great success, of many scores by contemporary composers.
