Mascagni in world premiere

The release of the month is a world premiere: the Cantata Alla Gioja by a young Mascagni. With its monumental structure it seemed like a typical work of the conservatoire. The composer then judged this piece, many decades later, “a composition beyond me” despite “the great beauties contained therein”; after nearly 50 years, during which the orchestral score and the parts for the voice and piano mysteriously disappeared, the heirs of Mascagni repossessed the autograph of the score. They have generously allowed the edition, edited by Ennio Clari, to be used in the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Lovorno born composer.
