Dario Castello

Little is known of the life of Dario Castello (c.1590 – c. 1630), an active composer in Venice (he was a late member of the Venetian school) and advocate of the transformation of the instrumental song into the sonata. He was among the musicians working at Saint Mark’s, where Claudio Monteverdi was director of music. He published two books of Sonate Concertate in Stil Moderno Book 1 and 2 (both of them in Venice).
