PLAYIN’ STRINGS for flute and guitar
Complete music sheet and Flute music sheet.
This short composition, originally written for violin and guitar, is characterized by the continuous interchange between binary and ternary meters; this gives the rhythm of the piece a certain crispness and relentlessness. The piece is in three parts: exposition of the main theme (preceded by a brief introduction), development of the theme in two sections, characterized by instability and chromatic harmony, and a final recapitulation. Just before this last section, we find a brief cadenza from the flute in a more introspective and intimate mood, it seems for a moment that the inexorable passing of time stops.
